• Tokaido Kawasaki-shuku Koryukan東海道かわさき宿交流館

  

  Kawasaki-juku was one of the fifty-three Tokaido post stations, founded in 1623; the city kept its four-hundredth year in 2023. Almost none of it is left standing — the wartime raids took the buildings and burned most of the paper record with them. Kawasaki opened this centre in October 2013 to hold what survived, in two small exhibition rooms on the second and third floors. It stands on the old road itself, which is what makes the walk worth taking.

• Inage Shrine稲毛神社

  

  Guardian shrine of the Kawasaki post town and the seven villages around it. Its founding year is lost, so the shrine argues its age from the sacred ginkgo in the grounds, reckoned at a thousand years. It still styles itself Kawasaki Sanno-sha, the name it carried from the late Heian period; Inage Shrine settled only in mid-Meiji. The hall itself is 1963 concrete — the Edo-period one burned in 1945.
